Omar Harb was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Comparative World Literature from San Francisco State University, he attended San Francisco Art Institute for two years, and then completed his Master’s of Fine Arts degree at San Jose State University. Omar is an oil painter and focuses primarily on the life sized nude figure. In his current work he includes furniture such as Windsor chairs, and French style chairs. In addition, he also includes Persian rugs and fabrics. Omar’s work creates an intimate and enclosed space in which the figurative nudes exist. These spaces are influenced by the dining rooms and guest rooms of his childhood home. His work focuses on capturing the visceral quality of the flesh of the person in paint, and the oddities of the body that are particular to each person. Omar’s work provides a tension between the rawness of the particular person being painted, and the idealizations of the body in the Renaissance. He primarily works with friends and models from life, in order to capture their own particular personalities within these personal interiors.
